Lisa Levasseur is a Canadian born business woman, Arabian horse breeder and emerging artist. She began expressing a passion for horses as a
young child, through drawings.
At age twelve, after convincing her parents to let her leave home and one of the top stables to accept her, she moved to California for eight
years to pursue the dream of training & showing Arabian horses. Still a horse owner today, by age 23 serious health issues threatened to cripple her for
life, later ending her career training horses. Marking that time, her print “Looking Back” successfully sold in galleries, one was purchased as a gift for
Antonio Banderas and another hangs in the Jasper museum, AB Canada.
With her father’s encouragement, Lisa followed his footsteps in the hospitality industry running restau- rants and hotels. Backed by family
and investors she now combines all of her interests running www.terracana.com a Rocky Mountain Ranch Resort one hour west of Jasper National Park. Always
drawn to the creative aspects of business and recognized for her talent, she also does interior design work and has a marketing company. In the past, she
found it difficult to find any time to focus on art, but recently set up a studio and is working towards incorporating an art centre and artist’s retreats
at Terracana.
Summer 2010, thanks to great staff, she took time off to do some artwork out of her mother’s studio in Edmonton, AB. Feeling imprisoned and
unwilling to paint horses, with so much to express, she thought abstract might help free her talent. She created a very innovative technique and unique
type of painting she calls, Palette Art. This caused a lot of excitement among family, friends and art professionals who are strongly encouraging her to
pursue art as a career. With her new collection of sixty paintings almost sold out and a few commissions, she feels fortunate to have an opportunity to
reconnect with her passion.
“I am moved by the actions, history and events that shape mankind, by nature or anything that elevates the spirit. I feel we are connected,
that we can affect or be affected by everything around us. I can’t help wanting to create things that reflect how I feel. I want people to understand what
they may be sacrificing, ignoring or overlooking in life. Sometimes it’s watching the simplest of things, it could the most horrifying things, often it’s
experiencing the adventure or beauty nature has to offer and it’s definitely in the connec- tion I have with animals. It translates into all this energy
which I can express in a positive way through my artwork, I only hope it inspires the same passion, love and hope in others.”
